Hand therapy is vital for anyone who has an injury or disease to their hand or surrounding area. There are 27 bones in the hand alone and healing in extremities can be more difficult than other parts of the body. This makes hand therapy a requirement for many types of ailments.

Ask anyone suffering from a problem with their hands, and they will say it is one of the things we take for granted most. Our wrists, hands, and fingers create a complex anatomy that combine to perform all sorts of macro and micro functions for us everyday without requiring so much as a second thought.

Even seemingly minor injuries can cause problems to this complex network of bones, nerves, and cartilage that requires medical intervention in the form of hand therapy. Some of the most common conditions treated at our Frankston location:

Hand Therapy

Treatment of the hand and upper extremity will largely depend on the injury of the individual patient. In some cases a brace will be required to restrict movement and keep the hand in the desired position, however each patient will be assessed based on their specific injury.

In more extreme cases, muscles can need to be re-activated and re-taught how to perform certain functions. Our skilled Occupational Therapists (OT) and Physical Therapists (PT) guide these hand therapy session with care and patience to give the patient their best chance of a full recovery.
