Groin Strain

The symptoms of Groin Strain are:

  • Groin pain sometimes referring into the thigh
  • Loss of power in the hip
  • Pain with running (over striding), twisting or sideways movements of the hip
  • Pain with lifting your leg while sitting
  • Increasing “tightness”on the inner thigh

Groin Strain

Groin strain can come on suddenly or build up over a period of time. Often there may be associated back, hip or pelvic problems that underpin your groin injury. An experienced practitioner can determine what is contributing to your injury to ensure you receive the best management

Treatment and management options

  • Icing in the acute stage and after your rehabilitation / groin training program
  • Groin exercise programs can commence within the first 72 hours of your injury. Hip/Gluteal stability exercises to strengthen the hip and pelvic muscles to assist in the overall conditioning of the muscles that help your groin. These need specific and careful instruction. We recommend an individual assessment of how to perform the correct hip strengthening exercise. Exercise physiology or Pilates programs may be recommended for conditioning your groin for full recovery.
  • Your practitioner may refer you to a Sports Physician for further investigations if your Groin Strain does not respond in our suggested time frames
  • Walking with a limp caused by groin pain is not advised and you must consult a professional immediately
