Real Time Ultrasound

Ultrasound and You

The use of real time ultrasound imaging provides both the physiotherapist and client with an accurate and immediate assessment tool for defining your level of core stability. With the use of real time ultrasound we are able to determine the function and capabilities of your deepest abdominal muscles and provide you with exercises that are individually tailored to your spine rather than relying on inaccurate exercise prescription.

The deepest abdominal muscles in conjunction with other important pelvic muscles, have been clinically proven  to be a major factor in both the management and prevention of spinal pain and weakness.

Your progress can be monitored and exercises progressed safely avoiding potentially harmful activities.

The Research

  • Your core muscles should activate to precede all arm and leg movements in a healthy spine. This is not the case in people with back pain resulting in an increase in spinal pressure.
  • Muscle wasting and resultant weakness can occur with one episode of bad back pain even after the pain has resolved.
  • The likelihood of the reoccurrence of back pain is reduced by undergoing 6-8 weeks of muscle retraining. The use of real time ultrasound is considered to be the most accurate way of facilitating this followed by a specific program you will be given.
  • The use of Ultrasound is a cost effective way and safe way of learning your exercise program - so you will be educated correctly.
  • The integrity of your core muscles assist in reducing the chance of degenerative changes or wear and tear due to compressive forces in your spine. Such forces can occur with activites as simple as sitting.
Have the knowledge and learn skills to overcome your back pain.

What to expect / Programs to suit you!

After having a Real Time Ultrasound performed by your physiotherapist you will be able to activate and control your core muscles to the right level with your exercises and daily activities.

You have the option at The Sports Injury Clinic to choose a program that will suit you with Bodywise Pilates or be shown a home exercise program.  The aim is to individualize your management so it is convenient and suits your budget.

Your muscular system is the corner stone to your spine's health. Combined with good postural habits and regular activity, your chances of becoming a back pain ‘statistic’ will be reduced.
