Psychology
Why see a psychologist?“We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them.” Albert Einstein
By seeing a psychologist you can find ways to cope with a change in life that is already happening, to identify and make a change for the better, or simply to get “unstuck”.
Campbell Thompson is a registered psychologist now practicing on Wednesdays and Fridays at TSIC. He is helping TSIC clients in the following ways:

Chronic pain and injury rehabilitation:
Anyone who has experienced a significant injury or chronic pain knows that it can be an emotional experience as much as a physical one. It is widely accepted that pain and injury can affect all aspects of your life, including relationships with loved ones. Campbell can help you to learn new ways of minimising or managing pain, and to hasten your return to doing the things in life you really value and being the person you want to be.

Depression and anxiety:
The “common colds” of mental health issues, depression and anxiety can hold us back from living the life we value. Untreated, they are likely to get worse. Given that 1 in 4 people will experience a serious depression, you probably know someone who has been through this experience and you may already understand the need to seek help at the earliest opportunity. Current treatments are increasingly effective in ending your struggle with anxiety or depression. Life is simply too short to keep going without doing something about it!

Work stress:
Chronic work stress will often result in more frequent illness, reduced quality of life and relationship stress. If you are interested in finding ways to manage your time better, improve your concentration at work, and to leave the office or factory behind when you come home, talking confidentially about your worries and learning new relaxations strategies can free you from the burden of stress.

Achieving a healthy weight and being active:
Good news...If you have tried before and failed…you’re normal! This is the way people change…you try something out, you fall off the wagon, then you get back on again armed with new knowledge about yourself. Trying to change eating and self-care habits of a lifetime is not easy, and actually failure is the perfect practice for trying again, but this time with the support you need to succeed. Your mind is the most powerful tool available for achieving weight loss or changing health behaviour. As a qualified exercise psychologist, Campbell will help you to rethink the way you set goals and to change how you feel about yourself and your relationship with food and physical activity. By training in Mindfulness and the principles of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, in as few as 6 weeks you can transform the way you approach diet and exercise and turn around the way you feel about yourself. It really works!

Relationship Issues:
All relationships will encounter difficulties and challenges as they change and grow. Discovering new ways to communicate and build trust with your loved ones help will help you to cope with the changes that life brings. Campbell often helps resolve parenting conflicts, stress from financial issues, or help couples to find new ways to solve problems without creating anger and hostility.

Why NOT see a psychologist?
A common motivation not to see a psychologist is the thought that “I can or should do this on my own!” This is a reasonable thought, but Campbell say this: "all the most significant human achievements have happened through collaboration and communication". How many significant things in your life do you hope to achieve as a totally solo effort without any coaching, expert advice, or discussion with others? Humans are hard-wired to learn and grow through communication with others.
Don’t underestimate the enormous significance of making a positive change in your own life:
• deepening the love and intimacy in your relationships,
• finding peace in place of anger, fear and anxiety,
• being a great parent,
• find satisfaction in your working life,
• living a life in good health and with great energy.
Life is short, and incredibly valuable, and if days keep going by without things improving, go find help! This is no practice run!
