Diabetes Programs
Type 2 Diabetes Program
This Medicare initiative enables people who have type 2 diabetes access to 9 services (one initial and 8 groups) with an exercise physiologist per calendar year.To be eligible for the program you must have Type 2 diabetes and be referred by your GP under a management plan .
These services are in addition to the five individual services available under the enhanced primary care program (if eligible).
A recent review on the literature has concluded that group based, patient centered training results in effective clinical, lifestyle and psychosocial outcomes for people with type 2 diabetes.

The group sessions comprise of an exercise component and an education component looking at different issues relating to type 2 diabetes such as nutrition, exercise and hydration and how to safely exercise at home.
