Your Right - Your Choice

If you have been injured at work your employer may ask you to visit a specific health practitioner but you have the right to choose your treating doctor, health practitioner or physiotherapist.

As long as that person is an Authorized WorkCover Provider

Authorised Workcover Provider

The Sports Injury Clinic is an Authorized WorkCover Provider as per the following paragraph from the official WorkCover web site.

“Referrals to assessment and rehabilitation services can only be made to approved providers who have a current contract to provide these services for the VWA. Assessment and Rehabilitation services are defined as Occupational Rehabilitation services under the Accident Compensation Act 1985 and the same choice of provider provisions apply to Assessment and Rehabilitation services as to other services. That is, a worker is entitled to receive Assessment and Rehabilitation services from an approved provider chosen by the worker from a list of names of not less than three approved providers (where available) nominated by the Authority (an agent ) employer or self insurer.”

You DO NOT need a Doctor’s referral to see a practitioner at The Sports Injury Clinic.

What to do

Whether you are full time, part time or casual, if you need medical treatment or time off work because of an injury or illness sustained at your workplace, you need to fill in a WorkCover Claim Form and notify your employer of any injury or illness within 30 days of you becoming aware of it.

Helping you get back to work - Sooner

Research shows that the more immediate the treatment for a work place injury, the sooner you will return to work and the more lasting your recovery is likely to be.
To achieve this and as per the WorkCover website, the law requires that you make every reasonable effort to return to work. You are obliged to participate in:-

  • Your return to work plan
  • Rehabilitation services
  • Assessments of your work capacity and progress

The Sports Injury Clinic can assist with all these requirements. As well as assessing and treating your injury, we can discuss suitable work options with your employer so you can stay at work performing modified duties to suit your injury, so that you can return to full duties as soon as possible.

If certain treatments or recommendations are disputed or rejected – The Sports Injury Clinic can be involved in the conciliation process.

No out of pocket expenses

WorkCover has a maximum fee structure for medical and similar services. Some practitioners charge patients over and above that fee however the “gap” cannot be claimed through Medicare or your Private Health Fund. At The Sports Injury Clinic, we believe that a work place injury is stressful enough; you don’t need extra financial burden so we do not charge over the WorkCover maximum fee structure. If you are treated at The Sports Injury Clinic you will have NO OUT OF POCKET EXPENSES*.
