Have you promised yourself a massage but think it’s too indulgent? The stresses of every day living can take their toll. Whether you’re working or exercising, your muscles can become tight and inflexible leaving you stiff and sore. Repetitive incorrect movement, poor posture or just your normal exercise routine can make you vulnerable to muscle damage and injury.

So if you thought a massage was purely for relaxation – think again! Remedial massage is an effective way to target specific pain. Our highly qualified, experienced massage therapist uses various treatment techniques*, to break down bound up muscle fibers that cause aches and soreness.

Remedial massage therapy plays an important part in the treatment and ongoing management of soft tissue injury. In conjunction with your personal exercise and physiotherapy program you’ll find that remedial massage will free up joints and condition muscles, so you can enjoy a smooth and supple approach to your fitness routine and your life!

Remedial Massage – It’s just the support your muscles need!

dry needling

Dry needling is a technique used for the treatment of muscular pain and dysfunction in both acute and chronic conditions. The technique involves inserting a fine, sterile acupuncture needle into the trigger points (hyperirritable spots) of the affected muscles. When trigger points are active within the muscles they can cause motor dysfunction, local tenderness and pain that radiates to other regions of the body.

Active trigger points can often be painful on compression when being treated during manual therapies. Thus, dry needling is commonly being used as a method of deactivating active trigger points as the needling process is typically painless. Furthermore, dry needling has the capacity to promote blood flow to the affected area, decrease pain, increase circulation and improve range of movement with less post treatment soreness.

Our experienced therapists will assess clients individually to determine if dry needling is a suitable and beneficial technique for the specific needs of each client. This aims to enhance treatment results, reduce overall pain and restore normal muscular function.

cupping

Cupping is derived from Traditional Chinese Medicine which is based on the belief that conditions such as asthma, common cold, skin conditions, chronic pain and musculoskeletal problems stem from imbalances in the body's life force or chi (energy flow).

Pain and tightness in the body can be a sign of internal toxins, energy blockages and bundled up muscle fibers or fascia. Cupping is a technique which may be used to relieve such factors. Static cupping (non-moving technique) may be used for the deactivation of trigger points (hyperirritable spots) of the affected muscles, whilst dynamic cupping (moving technique) may be used to release the muscle fascia, which is the connective tissue that wraps around muscles. By releasing the fascia, the muscle is then able to move in a relaxed state with increased function and blood circulation.

The cupping vacuum can be created by either heat in a glass cup or suction. The vacuum draws blood to the surface of the skin causing temporary skin marking. This process allows toxins to be naturally removed throughout the body, increasing the overall rate of recovery and allowing for faster healing.

Cupping is a therapeutic and typically painless process. It does not irritate the skin or body and can draw inflammation out without adding to it. It is a useful technique which is commonly used in conjunction with manual therapies.
